Ok, so, I am building a website for my wife's aunt. She does custom embroidery. She wants sort of an ecommerce site but more of an informational personal site.
She wants some sort of live craft world activity reporting thing (if that exists) on the site.
The only thing I can think of RSS feeds or widgets. What would you guys suggest. I like the idea of RSS feeds if I can find them because they save space both on the page and are not dependant on her hosting service.

Jim, I would say RSS feeds are a good way to go but they only show updates as far as I know. I really don't use them so I am no pro on RSS. If you want to save a lot of time I would suggest GoDaddy.com for hosting and building they have 2 ways to do this one is called website tonight and the other is Spaces I use the website tonight they will host the site and you can also have a shopping checkout page if you need it. Its pretty inexpensive go there and read what they offer. You can also build your own site and upload it to their servers if needed, they have a support and sales # and are really helpful call them and they will give you some good advice. Thanks for the input Tom. I will definatly look at GoDaddy. I am on a scavenger hunt for RSS feeds that have anything to do with arts and crafts. They are hard to come by.
As far as hosting I have used Netfirms for years. Both the free and paid services. I have had pretty good service from them but going through GoDaddy I might learn a thing or two.

I believe you said you have Vista, somewhere in there is some widgets and RSS feeds from MS. Oh, OK open your sidebar doohickey, I think through control panel, I never use mine gets in my way lol. Anyways check there and you should be able to find direct links to MS & Google feeds. There are hundreds let me know if you have trouble locating. I am sure one can be customized for your needs if you don't find just what your after.

I believe so. However, note, my experience with actual RSS feeds is limited. The codes embedded in such RSS feeds are the works of individual programmers that have invested considerable time in their endeavor's as you are well aware of. Check the usage and privacy terms that each programmer stipulates, the sure fire way is E-mail notification (direct) contact may or may not assure security, or privacy, save each reply you receive for later retrieval. Some pre-formated RSS feeds embeds malicious codes that will extract user information, without user knowledge. Caution is always urged and user discretion is one of the most valued tools that Security Engineers or ordinary users all have immediate access to.
