I have a customer's computere here with a problem. I built the machine for them 2 years ago and this is the first problem it has ever had. Here's the deal;
The customer has a dial-up connection because of the area they live in. It is the only Internet access they can get. Now, the machine is running XP SP2. The problem is a couple months ago they brought the computer in because it would not detect a dial tone. That turned out to be the modem had unseated from the PCI slot. Easy fix. Now, last week they bring it to me saying that when they click there ISP icon on the desktop and the modem begins the dialing process, the computer reboots. Everytime, not just every once in awhile.
I did some Googling on the subject and turned up a couple different things; faulty modem (unlikely but possible), corrupt drivers, and loose wiring. The latter has been ruled out.
Any thought?
